Have you seen the TV serie Vikings? Are you fascinated with the history of the sea warriors from the North? Do you want to know more about them? How they lived, loved, fought and died?

Welcome to the land of the Vikings! Join us on this guided walking tour through the very early days of Copenhagen and through the lives of these fascinating people.

Vikings where so much more than brutal sea warriors. They were excellent shipbuilders, merchants, artists, party people celebrating the year’s biggest event called jul – or Christmas as we call it today, inventors of many words in the English language, the beer. The feastly and beastly. The times of the vikings are not only a story of the brutal heathen fighters, who plundered and murdered their way through Europe, it is also a story of everyday life, hope, love and fear. Explore their minds, hearts and souls together with us right in the middle of Copenhagen.

We invite you on this guided tour for 2,5 hours in the footsteps of the Vikings through the old part of Copenhagen.

Walking tour in the footsteps of the Vikings

The tour starts at the Town Hall Square, it will take you to the Nationalmuseum, where we will show you the 10 highlights of the Viking treasures before we continue the tour to the Botanical Garden, where we will talk about Viking food, the spices, beer and mead. We hope that you are ready to embark on this guided walking tour with us through the narrow streets of Copenhagen in search of the Vikings.

On this Two Kingdoms Tour you will visit to rival countries! Sweden and Denmark have fought each other for centuries and holds the record for most wars fought between them. It all adds up to around 30 wars since the 15th century. We even beat the biggest enemies of Europe, England and France, who have fought 16 wars.

About the tour

The countries are separated by the Öresund, which links the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The tour will take us on a mini round trip, starting with sightseing in Copenhagen and proceeding north to Elsinore to see Kronborg Castle. Then followed by a small ferry ride across to Helsingborg in Sweden, we proceed south and visit Lund and Malmö, before heading back to Copenhagen.

This tour is also possible in five hours: We will cross the bridge both ways and exclude Kronborg Castle visit.

The picturesque fishing village Dragør

Join us on a tour in the picturesque Fishing Village Dragør-  just half an hour from Copenhagen. The city is on the top 10 of the most beautiful towns in Denmark!
Feel the fresh, cool breeze of sea air coming in from the South, absorb the tranquility in the charming narrow streets among the distinctive yellow fishermen’s houses.

In order to be a true local in Dragør, it is said that you need to be able to trace your ancestors back at least three generations! The first people in the city were Dutch – brought to Denmark by the king to grow vegetables for his mistress.

Get a good view of the bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden and listen to the riveting stories of the fishermen in Dragør and how they helped saving the Danish jews during the WWII.

Kronborg Castle – home of Hamlet

“No jocund health that Denmark drinks today

But the great cannon to the clouds shall tell,
And the King’s rouse the heaven shall bruit again,
Respeaking earthly thunder”

Welcome to UNESCO’s world heritage, welcome to the King’s Castle and to the world of Hamlet. Join us on this tour, where we will take the scenic route along the coast of Oresund to the historic castle of Kronborg.
Thousands of ships passed Elsinore on their way to the Baltic Sea and all of them had to pay a toll, which made the kings very wealthy. On our first stop you will see the fantastic view of the Sound and get a glimpse of Sweden on the other side. Experience the splendid castle inside and hear the lovestory of King Frederik and Sophie. Experience the huge dance hall and hear about life at court in the 15th and 16th century.

Find out why Shakespeare chose this location for his story of Hamlet, and learn how the famous play is a vibrant part of the Kronborg Castle today.
Feel the atmosphere in the dark and humid cassemates under the castles and meet Holger the Dane- an old sleepy warrior, who will wake up and fight for Denmark when it is needed.

Explore the Danish Heritage

The best way to experience and explore the Danish heritage is by going to Roskilde. Join us for a tour where you will explore the magnificent cathedral – an architectural masterpiece. 1000 years of Danish history are gathered here under beautifully decorated vaults and in dark crypts. Here 39 kings and queens of Denmark lie buried and the cathedral is thus one of the most sacred places in Denmark. The cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Afterwards we will visit the Viking Museum where original ships lay by the fjord. Your guide will tell you all the stories of the vikings. The Museum is the only place in the world where you can see 1000-year-old Viking ships, and then go directly out to the Museum harbour where the full-scale reconstructed Viking ships lie moored at the quayside.

Roskilde Cathedral history

3D animated historical tour from the 10th century till today…
Animated by Johan Gerup

Roskilde Cathedral (UNESCO/NHK)
Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, this was Scandinavia’s first Gothic cathedral to be built of bricks. This style then spread throughout northern Europe. It has been the mausoleum of the Danish royal family since the 15th century. Porches and side chapels were added up to the end of the 19th century. Thus it provides a clear overview of the development of European religious architecture.

Viking Voyage – BBC TimeWatch, 2008

In 2007 a crew of 65 brave men and women set sail on a journey from Roskilde to Dublin in a 30m (100ft) Viking longship named “Havhingsten fra Glendalough” (“Sea Stallion from Glendalough”). A Danish reconstruction of the Skuldelev 2 ship is on display in the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum and originally built around 1040 near Dublin. BBC TimeWatch follows this amazing journey of experimental maritime archaeology.
